Neemuch district is a famous area for Opium cultivation, and a special Indian dish, Green Opium Leaf Vegetable (Bhaji), is made here during the winter season. When the opium is green in the fields, its leaves are plucked during weeding and pruning, and the green leaves are used to make a vegetable. This vegetable is very spicy and delicious to eat and has a little bitterness in its taste, which is balanced with special spices. This dish is a part of an age-old tradition and is now seen in very few places. This vegetable is traditionally made in the villages and is used in very limited quantity.
