Sukhanand
Sukhanand Tirtha, 550 meters above sea level in the Aravalli mountain ranges on the border of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, is a very beautiful place. It is located 13 kilometers away from Jawad. Here the hills are situated in an angled position. The natural beauty here is very captivating which attracts tourists and devotees. The vast area from Ujjain to Eklingnath is ‘Shivbhoomi’ where thousands of Shiva temples are built. The famous places in this area are – ‘Mahakal’ in Ujjaini, ‘Pashupatinath’ in Dashpur (Mandsaur), ‘Sukhanand’ in Jawad (Athana), ‘Gautamnath’ in Arnod (Pratapgarh), ‘Tripur Sundari Temple’ in Banswara, Shiva idol in Chittor Fort and the ancient temple of Eklingji. Apart from these, there are many other holy and attractive places. Sukhanand is one of these holy places which itself became a pilgrimage due to the penance of Sukhdev Muni. This pilgrimage is situated between beautiful mountains and sandalwood forests. The unique view of natural beauty all around makes the heart of the visitors happy and gives them new energy.
Pleased with the beauty and calm atmosphere of this place, Shri Sukhdevji performed penance here. Since then, this place has become a great pilgrimage. The Ganga that flows uninterruptedly from the mountainous region here is the fruit of penance brought by Shri Sukhdev Muni, which is popular here by the name of ‘Shauki Ganga’.
This place is situated in the middle of high hills, where one has to climb a long series of stairs to reach. Water falls from a height of 19 meters (about 61 feet) from the waterfalls here. Many devotees from far and wide also come here to immerse the ashes of their deceased family members.
